Shana’s love for music began when she was very young. At the age of seven, she began writing her own songs on guitar, featuring on ITV’s Britain’s Number One Family, singing alongside her brothers. In her early songwriting days, Shana wrote an anti-knife crime song that received BBC radio play and a letter from the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, congratulating her efforts. This led to press appearances in local newspapers and on local BBC Radio with Joanne Malin and BBC Introducing.
Shana then went on to study popular music at Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) under a scholarship given by Adrian Packer, a former Brit School head and tutor of Amy Winehouse. Adrian was a close mentor to Shana and insisted she go on to a scholarship at Liverpool's, LIPA. During her time at BOA, Shana had the opportunity to meet Jessie J during a visit to the academy. After hearing her sing, Jessie invited Shana and a fellow classmate to perform at the O2 Academy Birmingham later that night.
Shana continued her studies in Music at Wolverhampton University - earning a BA Honours. She was guided by vocal tutor Louise Warren, who described her as a “versatile singer with a natural ability to sing by ear.” Shana is currently providing vocals and guitar work for local producers and musicians, including her brother and producer _Xeno. Shana is also a visual artist and graphic designer; creating artwork for clients for over a decade. These include Brum Radio and the live music event company, Cache - creating graphics for Shanti Celeste and DJ Ethyl.
Based in Warwick, UK, Shana often works online and is able to travel across the country. Her singing style ranges from pop, rock, to jazz. Currently, her main types of work include studio sessions and vocals recorded from her home studio. Shana is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, experimenting with keys and the tin-whistle. Shana specialises in the guitar and vocals - her favourite way to song write. She is also competent in music technology and reading music notation, using Logic Pro to record and arrange songs.
As a mixed-race woman, Shana's songwriting often incorporates socio-political commentary. Her favourite compositions are ones written alongside her brother, Christy Carey - a talented music producer and multi-instrumentalist in the band AV Dummy. Christy recently contributed guitar to a project as part of Charles Jeffery's LOVERBOY Abbey Road fashion performance. Christy's debut album with AV Dummy received praise from artist, Finneas for being the most exciting up and coming producer.
Previous projects include: Brum Radio, _Xeno, Channel 4, BRIT Radio, BBC Introducing and The Residency.
